The Qualify Nation Framework

The QNF is an industry-focused professional development framework designed to recognise practical competence across technology, business, and digital disciplines. Five levels. Clear progression. Rigorous assessment. Built for what employers actually hire for.

What Is the QNF?

The Qualify Nation Framework (QNF) is a structured credential system that validates depth of knowledge and applied skills valued by employers. It provides a clear progression from foundational awareness through to expert-level mastery across 14 career pathways.

Each QNF credential carries a defined number of learning hours, follows a consistent assessment model, and is awarded only after demonstrating genuine competence — not just course completion.

Industry-Focused

Curriculum built around skills employers recruit for, reviewed annually with subject matter experts

Proctored Assessment

Every credential requires passing a proctored exam — your certificate reflects genuine competence

Employer Verified

Digital verification portal lets recruiters and employers confirm any QNF credential instantly

Clear Progression

Five defined levels from foundation to expert — you always know where you are and what comes next

The Qualify Nation Framework (QNF)

Qualify Nation operates its own internal qualification framework — the Qualify Nation Framework (QNF). The QNF structures programmes across five levels of increasing depth, complexity, and learner autonomy. Each level uses a credit system where one QnCredit represents 10 notional hours of learning.

To help employers and learners understand the approximate level of challenge represented by each QNF level, we provide indicative comparisons to the UK’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). These comparisons are provided for guidance purposes only and do not constitute formal Ofqual-regulated alignment, credit transfer, or recognition under the RQF. The QNF is an internal Qualify Nation framework.

QNF Level Title Indicative RQF Comparison* Descriptor

QNF2PractitionerLevel 4Broad knowledge; apply independently

*Indicative comparisons only. These do not represent formal Ofqual-regulated alignment or recognition under the RQF.

Credentials

The QNF awards three types of credentials, each serving a different purpose in your professional development.

Credential Abbreviation Purpose Levels
Qualify Nation BadgeQnBadgeModule completion — marks incremental progressAny
Qualify Nation CertificateQnCertSubstantial competence across a full pathwayQNF1–QNF3
Qualify Nation DiplomaQnDipComprehensive professional masteryQNF4–QNF5

QnBadges carry 2–5 QnCredits (20–50 learning hours) and are awarded as you complete individual modules. They’re useful for showing progress to employers before you finish a full programme. QnCerts and QnDips are the substantive credentials — each represents a complete programme of study with proctored assessment.

QnCredits: How Learning Is Measured

QNF uses QnCredits to quantify the learning investment behind each credential. One QnCredit represents 10 notional learning hours, covering guided learning, independent study, and assessment preparation.

Credit Requirements by Level

Level Credential QnCredits Learning Hours
QNF1 FoundationQnCert40400
QNF2 PractitionerQnCert50500
QNF3 ProfessionalQnCert60600
QNF4 SpecialistQnDip1001,000
QNF5 ExpertQnDip1201,200

Assessment: How You Prove Competence

Assessment rigour increases with each level. This isn’t a “watch videos and get a certificate” programme — every QNF credential requires you to demonstrate genuine understanding under controlled conditions.

Assessment Components by Level

Level Assessment
QNF1 FoundationCoursework assignments + short proctored examination
QNF2 PractitionerCoursework assignments + proctored examination
QNF3 ProfessionalProfessional portfolio + proctored examination
QNF4 SpecialistProfessional portfolio + case study analysis + viva voce
QNF5 ExpertResearch project + viva voce + peer review component

Proctored From QNF2 Upwards

All examinations at QNF2 and above are proctored using AI-assisted remote invigilation or in-person supervision. This ensures the credential on your CV reflects your competence — not someone else’s.

Grading

QNF uses a competency-based grading model:

  • Distinction — Exceptional competence and insight
  • Merit — Exceeds the required standard with deeper understanding
  • Pass — Meets all learning outcomes at the required standard
  • Not Yet Competent — Does not meet the standard; may resubmit

14 Career Pathways

The QNF covers 14 career-focused pathways across technology, business, and digital disciplines. All pathways carry equal weighting.

Credential Naming

QNF credentials follow a standard naming convention so employers and learners can immediately identify the subject and level.

Examples

Credential Name Level Learning Hours
QnCert in AI (Foundation)QNF1400
QnCert in Cybersecurity (Practitioner)QNF2500
QnCert in Digital Marketing (Professional)QNF3600
QnDip in DevOps (Specialist)QNF41,000
QnDip in Data Science (Expert)QNF51,200

QnBadges follow a simpler format: QnBadge: [Module Name] — for example, QnBadge: Introduction to Machine Learning or QnBadge: Network Security Fundamentals.

Prerequisites

There are none. You can enrol at any QNF level. We recommend completing lower levels before attempting advanced credentials, but we don’t enforce it.

If you choose to start at a higher level without foundational preparation, we’ll provide advisory guidance during enrolment to help you assess your readiness. Each credential is a standalone programme — they don’t stack or carry forward.

Quality Assurance

We maintain the value of QNF credentials through documented quality processes:

  • Proctored assessment for every QNF credential, with identity verification and supervised exam conditions
  • Annual curriculum review by subject matter experts
  • Learner feedback collection and analysis after every cohort
  • Employer engagement to ensure industry relevance
  • Documented appeals and malpractice procedures

Regulatory Status

QNF credentials are industry certifications demonstrating practical competence. They are not Ofqual-regulated qualifications. The QNF is an independent framework developed by Qualify Nation®.

The framework has been designed with potential future regulatory recognition in mind, and our curriculum documentation is structured to support that transition should we pursue it.

Questions About the Framework

Are QNF qualifications recognised by employers?

QNF credentials validate practical, industry-relevant skills. Employers can instantly verify any credential through our online verification portal. The framework is designed around what hiring managers in technology, business, and digital roles actually look for.

Are QNF qualifications the same as a degree or NVQ?

No. QNF credentials are industry certifications, not Ofqual-regulated qualifications. They serve a different purpose: demonstrating practical competence in a specific professional discipline rather than broad academic achievement.

Do I need to start at QNF1?

No. You can enter at any level. However, we recommend building from the foundation upwards, particularly if you’re new to the subject area. If you’re an experienced professional, you may be ready to start at QNF2 or QNF3.

Can I use QnCredits towards a university qualification?

QnCredits are specific to the Qualify Nation Framework. They are not CATS or ECTS credits and cannot be directly transferred to university programmes. However, some institutions may consider QNF study as part of a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) application at their discretion.

What does “proctored assessment” mean?

It means your exam is supervised — either by AI-assisted remote invigilation (you take the exam at home under monitored conditions) or in-person at an approved centre. This ensures the person who earned the credential is the person who sat the exam.
